Alternate Fiber Route

Departments: Networking & Information Security and Telecommunications

Project Overview: An auxiliary network fiber route will be built between the main campus and west campus data centers, providing redundant connections for all major networking hubs. The additional fiber path will serve as a back-up to the existing route. The new route will not use the campus steam tunnels.

Benefits: Provide critical network redundancy and reduce the risk of IT service interruptions.

Timeline: June 2012 - September 2012 for fiber route constructions. Additional work will be needed to make connections within buildings. This work is slated for completion by December 2012.

Project Costs: $770,443
